What's a balebosta?
“Balebosta” is a Yiddish word often used to describe someone who knows how to make people feel cared for. A balebosta is resourceful, capable, warm, and deeply tuned in to the details that make a home, gathering, or gift feel welcoming.
To us, the word carries a sense of hospitality that is both practical and heartfelt. It is about knowing what belongs on the table, what someone might enjoy, and how to bring things together in a way that feels natural. That spirit guides everything we create.
Our Founder
Jackie Quinlan's appreciation for the hospitality began in childhood with stories of her father’s family-owned hotel in on a lake in Vermont. Showing an early interest in cooking, her approach was shaped by the confident, generous, and whimsical approach of Julia Child, whose cooking and hosting legacy continues to bring bring people together.
After graduating from the Cornell Hotel School, Jackie spent years in restaurant operations before moving into corporate Human Resources. While those worlds seem different, they both rely on the same thing: a deep understanding of people and the meticulous systems required to make an experience feel seamless.
Jackie founded BALEBOSTA to bring those professional standards to the gifting world. She combines her background in high-stakes hospitality with a career spent managing complex logistics to ensure that every project is executed with both heart and precision, honoring the generations of balebostas before her.
